Ethereum

These wallets only cover the Ethereum/EVM ecosystem.

NOTE

Wondering where Burner went? There's a separate page for hardware wallets now.

Base App

The Base App is the evolution of Coinbase's Coinbase Wallet, now featuring smart accounts as a first-class citizen and introducing an “everything app” paradigm. Yes, a bunch of nerds working at a crypto exchange came up with an everything app before Elon Musk.

Because of the smart account, called a Base Account (formerly Coinbase Smart Wallet), you can sign in with an email or a passkey instead of using recovery phrases. Also the Base App will give you a free Basename (*.base.eth), but I don't know if renewing it will have a cost for Base App users (although Basename renewal fees are very cheap, at least for longer names).

It features a social feed powered by Farcaster and Zora, an encrypted chat powered by XMTP, a mini app platform, and the digital wallet. You can deposit cash in the app through Coinbase, Apple/Google Pay, or using a credit/debit card. You can also withdraw from the app through Coinbase.

One MAJOR caveat is the social feed. The social feed has a “tokenize everything” mentality, where every post turns into a new crypto asset, which basically turns your social feed into a stock market. If you get the Base App and want to post things, I would recommend turning off the “Enable Earnings” switch to stop the tokenization. I would still recommend the Base App to people for the apps, chat, and wallet.

Even though the Base App is iOS and Android only, your Base Account can be used in any browser that supports passkeys and with any app that supports connecting to Coinbase Wallet. Just know that you may have issues outside of the Base App's mini app platform, for example Fileverse and Lens just didn't work with my Base Account.

Family

Family is an iOS-only EVM wallet with a modern and user-friendly design. Family does have a web account system for backups and connecting to certain apps (mostly within the Lens ecosystem), but Family is still a self-custodial wallet since they ensure custody by still giving you access to your recovery phrase and by encrypting your keys on their servers using a password or passkey.

In many places throughout Family, you'll find little information buttons to tell you about what something means, and sometimes tapping on elements will give you information. This helps people who are new to crypto learn how things work.

If you're on an iPhone and possibly plan to use the Lens ecosystem, Family is a great choice for an EVM-only wallet.

IMPORTANT

Family is shutting down.

Read this Tweet from Family to learn more. If you are using Family as your EVM wallet, it is recommended to export your seed phrase into another wallet app before April 2027. I would recommend using Zerion, since it has great support for Ethereum L2s, including Lens Chain.

If you're using Family Account (now Aave Account) to sign into Lens apps, you can export your wallet from https://app.family.co.

World App

The World App was made by World, a company co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman to create a “proof of humanity” with privacy and anonymity in mind to differentiate humans from AI as it becomes harder to do so. The World App contains this “World ID”, and is also a digital wallet, mini app platform, and chat app based on the XMTP protocol.

Many features of the World App are locked behind World ID verification, and appearing at a World Orb location is required to become verified. The app will help you find an Orb location. If you want to become an Operator and help others get verified, you can learn about the process of becoming a Community Operator or World Operator at the World website.

Keep in mind that currently the World App only accepts assets on the World Chain. You can use bridges like Across (the same bridge I recommend for Lens Chain) to get funds from other Ethereum chains to the World App wallet on the World Chain.

Chains: World Chain only (other chains may be supported in the future)
Additional Features: World ID, Mini App Platform, XMTP Chat
Supported Usernames: Internal Usernames Only
Platforms: iOS, Android
